Meeting Miss Soweto 2021 Finalist – Khanyisile Dakile

1. Favourite scary movie?

My favourite scary movie is The Grudge because I just remember watching it with my cousins for the first time. My grandmother’s house had a surround sound system, which made the cat’s meows seem like it was coming from under the couch, I’ll never forget how one of my cousins jumped and scared us all into thinking that what was happening was real and those were actually one of my most fondest memories being home alone with my family, we still talk about it till this day.

2. Favourite social media influencer?

Bridget Masinga because aside from being a well-accomplished media pioneer and model, I just love how she can still be laid back and her true self. I’ll never forget a live post she made where she was eating Chicken nuggets from McDonald’s and discussing topics of the day, looking absolutely gorgeous while literally just chilling at home. She’s very funny and never censors herself ever.

3. Favourite Marvel or DC villain?

My favourite supervillain has to be Killgrave from a famous Marvel Netflix series called Jessica Jones staring the impenetrable Luke Cage. I always say the bad guys always get the cool powers and Killgrave is definitely one of the best characters I’ve ever watched, he can literally compel people to do just about anything he wants them to and doesn’t even have sympathy for the consequences. Of course, he makes people do bad things they don’t want to do for most of season one and his only weakness is his obsession for Jessica, this basically tells me that even though he is a complete psycho narcissist, there is still a little bit of good left under all that crazy.

4. Introduction:

My name is Khanyisile Dakile.  I’m 24 years old from Diepkloof in Soweto.

I’m a final year student at Boston Media House, majoring in television and sound engineering. I am also a production coordinator for an online talk show called Incite with Tendai Marowa. I’m an entrepreneur of a beauty business and I’m currently in the process of registering my NPO called the Sihle Dakile Foundation, which focuses on suicide awareness and mental health management for the youth.

5. Your background and goals for the future?

Growing up in Diepkloof made me develop a thick skin because I had to learn to be tough at an early age, my community, like any other, was filled with distractions so it was hard for me to fight off peer pressure and negative energies but with the support of my family and loved ones, I became the graceful lady that I am today.

6. How do you feel about being selected as a finalist for Miss Soweto 2021?

I feel honoured to even be considered for the possibility to represent not just one of the biggest brands in South Africa but also a whole collection of communities in Soweto.

7. What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about celebrating the tenacity of young women and the roles they play in society today. I am passionate about constantly reinventing myself and inspiring others through positive representation and lastly, I am passionate about enriching the youth to become game changers in their communities by loving myself and spreading positive energy around me.

8. A unique thing about you?

The one unique thing about me is my Warrior Spirit and my ability to bounce back from anything no matter how hard or how painful it might be.

Being bullied from an early age definitely not only changed my trajectory but made me appreciate myself even more.

9. Why do you think you have what it takes to be Miss Soweto?

I believe in what Miss Soweto stands for as a brand – enriching women to become pillars of their communities and I would love to be a part of that. Miss Soweto is like a scholarship program and not just a beauty pageant. It serves as a powerful launching pad for me to open doors I never thought I could. If I become the next Miss Soweto, I know that the success will not only be mine but also for every little girl in the township who sits alone thinking that she can never achieve her dreams. I’m here to say: “You will and you already have!”
