Meeting Miss Soweto 2021 Finalist – Tshegofatso Ratale

1. Favourite scary movie?
Back in my younger days when I still had the strength to watch horror movies, my favourites were definitely the Paranormal Activity movies!

2. Favourite social media influencer?
Mihlali Ndamase. She is everything I aspire to be and more! She’s doing amazing things at such a young age.

3. Favourite Marvel or DC villain?
Firstly, I am a die-hard MARVEL superheroes fan, the DC guys are really “basic” in my opinion. My absolute favourite MARVEL VILLAIN IS …MR THANOS!

4. Introduce yourself.
I am Tshegofatso Ratale, representing the beautiful Protea North. I am a 21-year-old final-year student at the University of Johannesburg studying towards a bachelor of arts degree in strategic corporate communication.
I am an ambitious, passionate person. A humble, compassionate person who is able to work well with others as well as in pressured environments. I am a creative thinker who always sees the bigger picture.

5. Tell us a bit about your background and what your future goals are.
I believe my sense of empathy makes me unique. The way I am able to understand the experiences and feelings of others is one of my strongest attributes. This allows me to be present for others and help them to navigate through tough situations.

I was raised in a loving household by my grandparents as I was born to young parents, who have sacrificed a lot in order to give me the best opportunities in life.

In the near future, I plan to start two NGOs, the first one will focus on helping the youth to be prepared for life after high school. The next NGO I hope to start will focus on gender-based violence, providing a safe space for women and children.

6. How do you feel about being chosen as a finalist in the Miss Soweto pageant?
The past year has been extremely difficult for us all. A lot has been taken from me personally and mentally. Being chosen as a finalist has been the biggest blessing, I am so honoured and grateful to be here. I feel my passion and zest for life coming back. Being part of a platform that has produced so many phenomenal women is an honour for me and I am excited about where this journey will take me.
