Top News: WHO Leader Speaks Out Against Vaccine Inequality

Cape Town – Director of communications at the World Health Organization, Gabby Stern, has spoken out about vaccine inequality and travel bans on the African continent. In a webinar yesterday, she criticised countries for placing a travel ban on South Africa for identifying the first Omicron variant. Placing South Africa on the travel red list only fuelled discrimination and racism argued Stern.

On Friday, a fire broke out in Paarl leaving 400 people homeless in the Drommedaris Informal Settlement in Mbekweni. Sixty firefighters rushed to the scene including two helicopters, in an attempt to rescue the injured residents and put out the fire. Firefighters worked throughout the night and finally contained the fire on Saturday. Gift of the Givers will assist in providing aid for the fire victims.
