Cape Town – A couple that won the hearts of Mzansi back in 2019 with a proposal at a KFC branch said they were still madly in love and planned to grow old together despite financial challenges and a delayed honeymoon. Hector Mkansi and Nonhlanhla Soldaat were married on 31 December 2019 after sponsors flocked to help the couple when their story went viral on social media. Approaching their second wedding anniversary the pair said after the wedding their lives went back to normal and they returned to living in an RDP home and Hector said he was still unemployed and struggling to get a job. The couple were due to have a honeymoon in the US after a sponsor gifted them the trip but when they were due to leave in March 2020, Covid-19 hit. The pair hope the sponsor will still be able to fund the trip when the timing is right.
Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says a full investigation will be conducted to determine what was the cause of a major power outage in the city. On Monday evening, the CBD, Sea Point, Woodstock, and surrounding areas were plunged into darkness and by Tuesday morning were still without electricity. On social media, cafes, restaurants, and shopping centres indicated if they had a generator and were open. Capetonians dished out tips as to who was open so that residents knew where to get a cup of coffee and who had power so that laptops and cell phones could be charged for work and communication. By midday, power had been restored to most areas, but some were still left with no electricity marking 24 hours without power by the time all areas had power restored.
In sports, Kaizer Chiefs will appeal the decision by the PSL not to grant the club a postponement of four matches in December following an outbreak of Covid-19 at the club. The club said in a statement it was “disappointed and taken aback by the contrasting lack of urgency from the PSL after having taken almost three weeks to address the matter.”
