Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi enjoyed a crowning moment in his glittering career as he and his teammates lifted the World Cup trophy in Qatar on Sunday. The South American team finally overcame France 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out having led the previous world champions twice during the match. In the first half, Argentina went 2-0 up and was cruising towards a third world cup title but French superstar Kylian Mbappe scored the first goal via a penalty and another goal seconds later to force extra time. Messi again put Argentina 3-2 up in extra time before Mbappe equalised via the penalty spot to complete a hat-trick. Read more here.

The ANC was expected to announce the results of the national elective conference voting on Sunday. However, in the late hours, the Gauteng delegates were still voting, and the party confirmed it would reconvene the conference on Monday morning. Incumbent party president Cyril Ramaphosa is widely expected to win re-election as party leader, but he is in a tight race with challenger and former cabinet minister Zweli Mkhize. Read more here.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk is fond of setting up polls on his account to ask his followers for their thoughts on important business decisions at the social media company. Over the past year, he has asked his followers’ many questions, including whether he should buy the company in the first place. On Sunday evening, Musk asked whether he should step down from the company, presumably to hand over the running of the business to someone else. He added that he would “abide by the results of the poll.” At the time of writing, 56.3% said Musk should step down from Twitter. Read more here.
