Kenya’s LGBTQ community ‘afraid of being denied rights’ amid crackdown

Vihiga Town (Kenya) (AFP) – Across East Africa, gay rights activists say anti-LBGTQ attacks are on the rise. Online conspiracy theories accusing shadowy international forces of “promoting homosexuality” have flooded Social media. In Kenya, a recent Supreme Court ruling against a petition seeking to bar LGBTQ lobbying groups, sparked widespread condemnation including from the attorney general, who has vowed to challenge the verdict. Now some in the LGBTQ community are voicing their concerns on what is happening. “I fail to understand why I should be denied my rights” says one lesbian woman, Jasmine, whose name has been changed.
