London (AFP) – Protesters against the expansion of London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone gather outside Downing Street to oppose the move, with many saying they couldn’t afford to replace non-compliant cars and vans that they use on a daily basis during a cost-of-living crisis. The city’s mayor Sadiq Khan is pressing ahead with the politically charged extension of the toll across Greater London, arguing it will help clean up the British capital’s air. Earlier this month he increased financial support for vehicle owners, making available to every Londoner various grants worth thousands of pounds to scrap non-compliant cars and trucks.
