Gazipur (Bangladesh) (AFP) – Violence breaks out in the industrial town of Gazipur outside the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, after more than 10,000 workers staged protests in factories and along highways to reject a government offer of a pay rise. A government-appointed panel raised wages earlier this week by more than 50 percent for the country’s four million garment factory workers, who are seeking a near-tripling of their monthly wage.
