Car drifting steers Iraq’s youth away from drugs and alcohol

Baghdad (AFP) – Tyres screech and crowd cheers as young Iraqi drift racers put on a show at the Mesopotamia Engines Sport Club in Baghdad. The activity serves as a vital outlet for young people to blow off steam in a healthy and productive manner. “I love this sport,” says Hassouni Al-Malik who, at just 21 years old, is Iraq’s youngest drift racer. “We do this for our fans and to create a new generation of racers that will take it up after us.”
