China says Taiwan ‘hyping up’ election interference claims

Beijing (AFP) – China’s defence ministry accuses Taiwan’s leadership of “hyping up” claims that Beijing is interfering in the self-ruled island’s upcoming presidential election. Defence ministry spokesperson Wu Qian accuses the ruling Democratic Progressive Party of trying to “stoke confrontation and manipulate” Taiwan’s closely watched January 13 vote, where one of the main themes will be how the presidential candidates will handle relations with China.
