Adetshina, born in Soweto to Nigerian and Mozambican parents, has faced intense scrutiny on social media, questioning her right to represent South Africa. The EFF highlighted this as a symptom of lingering apartheid and colonial ideologies, noting that previous contestants of non-African descent did not face similar backlash. The party emphasized that this discrimination reflects a broader societal issue of Afrophobia. Additionally, a petition to disqualify Adetshina has garnered significant support before being removed. The EFF expressed solidarity with Adetshina and others facing discrimination due to their African heritage.
