Opinions of the day: A New Breed Of Politicians Should Tackle The Housing Crisis

Adi Kumar and Kamogelo Shika express their concern for the provision of housing in the Daily Maverick. The City of Cape Town is experiencing a housing crisis and has promised South African citizens that 2000 social housing units will be built in the city. To date, little progress has been made. According to the Daily Maverick, “The land has sat vacant and underutilised for five years, while informal settlement residents wait in intolerable conditions.” The article further states that government should focus on service delivery as “the process has become lethargic and deeply politicised.”

Two weeks ago we were supposed to experience a prominent moment in history with the birth of the ‘Tembisa 10’ duceplets. This miraculous occurrence first published in Pretoria News, has no ground or evidence to stand on. “It has been almost two weeks now and no one can say with any degree of certainty that they do, in fact, exist.” writes the Sowetan Live. Therefore, we have to ask, why the secrecy around the decuplets story?
