Kusile corruption arrests: Eskom, the R2bn ABB contract, kickbacks and the Kokos – News24 (for subscribers) 

News24 reports that two former Asea Brown Boveri ABB workers and their spouses were arrested in connection with inflated contracts issued to Impulse International.

The article further states that in 2015, Eskom gave ABB an R2 billion contract to do work at the Kusile power station, but the two companies are said to have broken procurement rules by giving some of the work, worth millions, to Impulse International. 

“At the time, former acting Eskom CEO Matshela Koko’s stepdaughter was a shareholder of Impulse International – and evidence exists the Koko family allegedly benefitted from some of the Eskom cash.” Read more here

Emmy nominations 2022: ‘Succession’ earns most nods; ‘Squid Game’ makes history – Washington Post

On Tuesday, the nominees for the 74th Emmy Awards was announced.

“Succession,” an HBO drama about an affluent, dysfunctional family running a media empire, received 25 Emmy nominations.

“Ted Lasso” an Apple TV Plus comedy featuring Jason Sudeikis as a Premier League soccer coach, and “The White Lotus” an HBO limited series, both received 20 nominations. While Squid Game, a South Korean drama, is the first non-English-language programme to be nominated for Outstanding Drama. Read more here

R200 drinking competition: Limpopo man dies after consuming entire bottle of Jagermeister – News24

A man died in Mashamba Village, in Limpopo, after consuming a bottle of Jagermeister in a competition on Sunday. 

“It follows an incident of apparent misuse of alcohol that took place at one of the local liquor outlets at Mashamba Village, where the patrons allegedly participated in what they called a ‘drinking competition’, in which the winner who could consume the entire bottle of Jagermeister, within a specified time, would get R200 cash,” police officer Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said. Read more here
