‘Profit from the coup’: Myanmar ethnic rebels welcome pro-democracy fighters

Shan State (Myanmar) (AFP) – The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) is one of around a dozen ethnic rebel groups along the Myanmar-China border that have fought the military for decades over autonomy and control of lucrative resources. Since the coup in Myanmar two years ago, ethnic rebel groups have taken centre stage in the nationwide battle for democracy, clashing with junta troops and training anti-coup “People’s Defence Force” groups from the Bamar majority.
