Dr. Nandipha Magudumana was set to make her court appearance at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court alongside her boyfriend, Thabo Bester. However, her lawyer confirmed that she had fainted and was currently held in the police holding cells. The lawyer expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions and the lack of direct access to his client after the incident, The South African reports.
Dr. Magudumana faces various charges, including defeating the ends of justice, fraud, corruption, abetting an inmate to escape, concealing an escaped offender, violating a corpse, aiding, and arson. These charges stem from allegations that she and 11 others assisted convicted killer Thabo Bester in a complex escape from the Mangaung Correctional Facility. Earlier, they were apprehended in Tanzania carrying multiple passports under different names. Dr. Magudumana was previously denied bail due to being considered a flight risk by the magistrate during her last court appearance.
