Jabiru storks spared from Brazil’s deadly wetland fires

Corumba, Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) (AFP) – Sheltered in their nest overlooking the burnt vegetation, a pair of jabirus, the emblematic stork species of the Brazilian Pantanal, symbolises the resilience of the fire-ravaged biodiversity sanctuary. Satellites have recorded more than 3,000 fires in the wetland region so far this year.
