Spanish royal family attends changing of the guard to mark 10 years of Felipe VI’s coronation


Madrid (AFP) – King Felipe VI marks the 10th anniversary of his accession to the Spanish throne, a decade during which he has endeavoured to restore the image of the monarchy, damaged by the excesses of his father Juan Carlos. The sovereign, Queen Letizia and their two daughters – Leonor, Princess of Asturias and heir to the throne, and Infanta Sofía – preside over the changing of the Royal Guard, the first act of the official ceremony.

UK migrant cookery school offers recipe for integration

The session is taking place at the Migrateful Cookery School in central London, a charity aimed at supporting asylum seekers, refugees and migrants struggling to integrate.

California firefighters battle biggest blaze of the year

In the western United States, recent wet winters have prompted the rapid growth of vegetation, which experts warn could prove dangerous as it dries out in the weeks and months ahead.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in Pyongyang for rare visit


Pyongyang (AFP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in Pyongyang, North Korea, for a rare visit set to boost defence ties between the two nuclear-armed countries. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un greeted Putin on a red carpet at Pyongyang’s airport, before a motorcade took Putin along streets lined with Russian flags. The trip is the Russian leader’s first to the isolated nation in 24 years.

Doune (United Kingdom) (AFP) – Recently reintroduced to the wild after disappearing 400 years ago, beavers are dividing Scots as they boost wildlife and tourism but damage farmland and trees. “There’s no place for them in Scotland,” states farmer Douglas Neill.
