Kyiv (Ukraine) (AFP) – More than 400 Ukrainian and Russian prisoners of war are returned home in a trade between Kyiv and Moscow, a week after the crash of a Russian plane allegedly carrying captured Ukrainian soldiers threw doubts on future swaps.

Quebec City (AFP) – Gerald Cyprien Lacroix, Canadian cardinal and close advisor to Pope Francis denies accusations he sexually assaulted a teenage girl in the 1980s. “I have decided to temporarily withdraw from the activities of my Diocese,” he adds.

Road accident in Mexico leaves at least 19 dead and 22 injured


Elota (Mexico) (AFP) – A collision between a double-decker bus and a truck has killed at least 19 people and left 22 injured in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, according to authorities. The accident occurred in the vicinity of the municipality of Elota, a tourist destination for mainly US and Canadian citizens who fish in the El Salto dam.

Police officers fighting drug trafficking and gangs in Marseille


Marseille (AFP) – During a day spent with the Specialized Field Brigade (BST) of the 15th arrondissement of Marseille, AFPTV followed a police unit during its interventions in parts of the city most affected by drug trafficking. France’s second largest city experienced a record year in terms of deaths linked to drug trafficking in 2023, with nearly 50 deaths, many of them teenagers.

Australia scientists work to conserve rare handfish


Tasmania (Australia) (AFP) – Scientists have collected 25 extremely rare red handfish from the ocean off Australia, hoping to protect the struggling species from warming seas, human-caused habitat changes and ravenous urchins.
