Hundreds rally in France in support of mass rape victim


Avignon (France) (AFP) – Nearly 200 women and dozens of men gather outside an Avignon courthouse in support of Gisele Pelicot, whose husband is accused of secretly drugging her and inviting strangers to rape her in her own home for over a decade. Dominique Pelicot, 71, has admitted to the charges against him in a trial that started on September 2, while another 50 men aged 26 to 74 — including single men, married fathers and divorcees with everyday jobs — are also being tried for alleged involvement. Pelicot’s trial has been adjourned to September 16 after the suspect was excused from attending over his deteriorating health.

Lima (AFP) – The coffin of former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori is carried from the hearse to the Museum where the vigil will be held. Alberto Fujimori, who ruled his country with an iron fist and then spent 16 years in prison for crimes against humanity, died on Wednesday at age 86 in the capital Lima. IMAGES

Lima (AFP) – The coffin of Peruvian former president Alberto Fujimori arrives inside the Museum of the Nation, in the capital, followed by his family, including his daughter and former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori.
