El Nino likely to cause ‘surge’ in global temperature says WMO


Geneva (AFP) – The weather phenomenon of El Nino is likely to ‘surge’ global temperatures this year, says Wilfran Moufouma-Okia, head of regional climate prediction services at the World Meteorological Organization. El Nino is a naturally occurring climate pattern typically associated with increased heat worldwide, as well as drought in some parts of the world and heavy rains elsewhere.

French fireman dies putting out blaze during riots, says interior minister


Reims (France) (AFP) – A French fireman died while seeking to douse burning cars north of Paris, during a sixth consecutive night of rioting over the police killing of a teenager, according to the interior minister. The 24-year-old fireman died fighting the fire in an underground car park in the suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis north of the capital, Gerald Darmanin says.
