Berlin (AFP) – Chinese Premier Li Qiang signs the guestbook of the German Presidency and shakes hands with the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier after his arrival at the Bellevue Palace in Berlin. China’s Premier Li Qiang, who is making his first trip abroad since being appointed premier in March, will meet German leaders in Berlin at a time when Beijing’s policies on Russia, trade and human rights are receiving an increasingly hostile reception in the West. Istanbul (AFP) – On the last day of Trans Pride Week, trans individuals who wanted to hold a pride march are detained by the police. Police closed off dozens of streets in the city center. Despite the blockade, some managed to gather and march.

16th century Mexican church emerges from the water amid deadly heatwave


Quechula (Mexico) (AFP) – The Temple of Quechula, a 16th century Roman Catholic Church, emerges from the Grijalva River amid a drought and a deadly heatwave in Mexico. Although it often partially emerges when water levels are low, this year’s drought has left it totally exposed, putting local fishermen’s livelihoods at risk.

Brutal attack on Ugandan secondary school kills at least 41


Mpondwe (Uganda) (AFP) – At least 41 people, mostly students, were killed during an attack on Mpondwe Lhubiriha Secondary School in Uganda on June 16. The attack is the deadliest in the country in over a decade. The Ugandan military says it is pursuing the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) for the attack, an Islamist rebel group in Uganda and DR Congo, considered as a terrorist organisation.
