Dam flood death toll rises to 10, says Ukraine’s internal minister


Kherson (Ukraine) (AFP) – Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko says there are now 10 dead in the southern city of Kherson and the region from the breach of a dam that it blames on Russia. Kyiv has accused Moscow of blowing up the dam on the Dnipro River, while Russia has blamed Ukraine.

Dnipro river’s water level drops upstream of destroyed dam


Zaporizhzhia (Ukraine) (AFP) – When the Kakhovka dam was breached last week — in what Kyiv and its allies believe was an act of Russian sabotage — the level of the Dnipro river uptream dropped dramatically. In the city of Zaporizhzhia, a sandy beach now gives way to a stinking mudflat, and sightseers have been left to survey the damage 15 months of war has dealt to their environment.

Philippines residents fear for safety, income loss as volcano rumbles
