Amman (AFP) – Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah marries Saudi architect Rajwa Al Saif on June 1, in a wedding attended by royals from across the globe. The ceremony took place in the mid-century Zahran Palace in the capital of Amman.

Russia struck Ukraine air defence systems overnight says defence ministry


Russia says its forces struck Ukraine’s air defence systems protecting “key” military infrastructure in the pro-Western country. In a video briefing, defence ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov claims that “long-range precision-guided air-launched weapons” were used in the attack, adding that “all assigned targets have been hit.”

The ancient aqueducts keeping Peruvian deserts fertile


Nazca (Peru) (AFP) – Since the fourth century AD a network of ancient aqueducts have provided water to the valleys of Peru’s Nazca region, making fertile land out of the desert. The aqueducts were built over 1,700 years ago by the pre-Hispanic Nazca people and are on UNESCO’s tentative list to be declared a World Heritage Site.

Singaporeans with dementia find their groove at silent disco


Singapore (AFP) – Residents with dementia hold hands and dance to golden oldies at a Singapore care home under a ‘silent disco’ initiative to help those with the disorder. In a silent disco format, they listen to tunes via their headphones. “Studies have generally shown that musical programmes do have positive outcomes on persons with dementia in terms of their overall well-being, cognition and emotion,” Grace Wong, Associate Psychologist at Apex Harmony Lodge says.

Toulouse space clinic: spending two months lying down to help research


Toulouse (France) (AFP) – “We reproduce on the ground the effects on the human body” felt in space, explains Marie-Pierre Bareille, head of the Toulouse space clinic, where volunteers spend two months lying down under supervision, in order to recreate the absence of gravity and thus help improve the living conditions of astronauts during their missions.

Relatives left to identify the dead after overnight rocket strike on Kyiv


Kyiv (Ukraine) (AFP) – In the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv, a team of Ukrainian investigators erect a cordon around the bodies of those killed by a Russian rocket strike overnight in the capital, before calling over the anxious relatives of those still missing to identify the dead. Officials say the attacks killed at least three and injured a dozen more, with a child apiece amongst the dead and wounded.
