Haaland an ‘incredible machine’ says Manchester City’s Guardiola


Munich (Germany) (AFP) – Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola hails Erling Haaland, describing the 22-year-old Norwegian as “an incredible machine”. Guardiola’s comments come after his side’s two-legged win over Bayern Munich, which sees them progress to the semi-final of the Champions League, where they will face the holders Real Madrid. Guardiola also addresses Haaland’s penalty miss, the first of his career. “Erling will learn… to take the ball, disappear, disappear, get out of the situation.”

‘Profit from the coup’: Myanmar ethnic rebels welcome pro-democracy fighters


Shan State (Myanmar) (AFP) – The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) is one of around a dozen ethnic rebel groups along the Myanmar-China border that have fought the military for decades over autonomy and control of lucrative resources. Since the coup in Myanmar two years ago, ethnic rebel groups have taken centre stage in the nationwide battle for democracy, clashing with junta troops and training anti-coup “People’s Defence Force” groups from the Bamar majority.

Russia’s human rights Sakharov Center shutters but refuses to go down


Moscow (AFP) – “Without Sakharov’s ideas, without this team’s activity, I see no future for Russia,” says Yan Rachinsky. Moscow’s Sakharov Center and human rights museum holds its last event after Russian authorities decided to evict the organisation from its premises, after nearly 30 years in operation.
