London (AFP) – Two anti-monarchy protesters boo King Charles III as he leaves the British Parliament in London where he received condolences from the Speakers of both Houses following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. ‘You can’t have any philosophical or moral justification for one family having political power like that just by virtue of their birth,’ says one protester.

50 million people stuck in ‘modern slavery’: UN


Geneva (AFP) – Fifty million people around the world are trapped in forced labour or forced marriage, the UN says. “This represents a significant increase in numbers, we’re going in the wrong direction,” explains Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva.

EU parliament holds minute’s silence for Queen Elizabeth II in Strasbourg


Strasbourg (France) (AFP) – The European Parliament in Strasbourg holds a minute of silence in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as they open their plenary session. Parliament speaker Roberta Metsola leads the tribute by saying: “Few have shaped global history like Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and her words on European unity spoken in this European Parliament in 1992 still resonate today.” IMAGES
