Funeral held for a Palestinian shot during Israeli raid in Jenin


Jenin (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Mourners march as they accompany the body of 29-year-old Mohammed Sabaaneh during his funeral in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. Sabaaneh was killed and 16 other Palestinians were wounded when Israeli troops entered Jenin to carry out a home demolition.

Putin attends military exercises with Chinese forces


Ussuriysk (Russia) (AFP) – President Vladimir Putin attends large-scale military exercises involving China and several Russia-friendly countries, and meets with his officials at the Sergeevski military range. The military drills, called Vostok-2022, started on September 1 and are due to take place until September 7 across several training grounds in Russia’s Far East and in the waters off its eastern coast.

EU blocks buyout of US cancer test upstart by Illumina


Brussels (AFP) – The EU vetoes the buyout of promising US cancer test startup Grail by biotech giant Illumina over fears the deal could one day create a monopoly. Illumina’s takeover of fellow US company Grail would “stifle the ongoing innovation race between Grail and its rivals, and ultimately lead to less innovation, less choice and higher prices” says the European Commission.
