Peruvian protests against new President Boluarte enter fourth day


Lima (AFP) – Protests across Peru entered their fourth day on Saturday, as thousands continue to fill the streets calling for the release of former president Pedro Castillo and the closure of Congress. Castillo was impeached and arrested on Wednesday 7 December, having faced a series of corruption probes. His successor, Dina Boluarte, who many on the streets see as a “usurper”, is Peru’s first woman president.

Firefighters work overnight on site of deadly Jersey explosion


Saint Helier (Jersey) (AFP) – Firefighters and rescue units assess the damage on the site of an explosion that flattened a three-storey apartment block in the Channel island of Jersey in the early hours of 10 December. Rescuers said after an all-night search that there was no hope of finding any more survivors in the wreckage. More than a dozen people are feared dead.

One dead and a dozen missing after blast in Jersey


Saint Helier (Jersey) (AFP) – One person has been killed and several others are missing after a “large” explosion on 10 December at a block of flats in Jersey’s capital St Helier, says the island’s police chief, Robin Smith. Richarlison’s family devastated but ‘proud’ after Brazil defeat


Nova Venécia (Brazil) (AFP) – Like millions of Brazilian families, Richarlison’s loved ones were inconsolable after the team’s exit from the World Cup, but fiercely proud to have witnessed the center-forward shine in Qatar. “He went through a phase of imitating Neymar” says Kettima Pereira de Andrade, the Tottenham striker’s sister, “today, seeing him next to Neymar…I’m very proud of him.”
