Canada’s Trudeau talks with Germany’s Scholz on energy supply


Montreal (AFP) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz holds a joint press conference in Montreal with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a three-day visit to Canada to firm up access to new energy supplies as his country moves to quickly end its reliance on Russian oil and gas. Trudeau says Canada is exploring “ways to see if it makes sense to export LNG (liquified natural gas), and if there’s a business case for it to export LNG directly to Europe,” but downplays the likelihood of direct LNG shipments from Canada to Germany.

They say that many owners who took in dogs during Covid have now been forced to abandon them because of the economic crisis, whilst dog adoptions have been complicated by Brexit.

With a counter-offensive rumoured to be brewing in the south of the country, one battalion near Mykolaiv works to keep their spirits up even as they resist the Russian army’s advances.

In Russia, wildfires blaze in the Ryazan region close to Moscow


Ryazan Oblast (Russia) (AFP) – Rampant wildfires in Ryazan Oblast, southeast of Moscow, have caused thick smog to blanket the Russian capital. Local authorities estimating that over 800 hectares have burnt down, but the international environmental group Greenpeace puts the figure at over 3,300 hectares.
