Since fleeing a military crackdown in Myanmar five years ago, life in the overcrowded refugee settlements in Bangladesh has prompted Rohingya families to limit the size of their households and embrace contraception. Roughly two-thirds of Rohingya couples are now using some form of birth control — up from virtually none five years ago.

New Delhi (AFP) – All that balding Indian television executive Athar Rasheed wanted was to look handsome and get married. But the 30-year-old’s seemingly harmless hair transplant went fatally wrong. Women have been judged on their appearance for millennia, but in an increasingly materialistic Indian society, men are also feeling pressure to look young and presentable for fear losing their social standing. More and more prematurely balding men are opting for hair transplants as disposable incomes rise and the emphasis on personal appearance becomes stronger. But in a weakly-regulated sector, some operators are amateurs self-trained on Youtube — with potentially deadly results.

Biden vows US job creation ‘not at the expense of Europe’


Washington (AFP) – President Joe Biden says that his efforts to create US jobs were not intended to be at Europe’s expense after complaints by French President Emmanuel Macron over state support to green industry. “My point is — we’re back in business, Europe is back in business. And we’re going to continue to create manufacturing jobs in America, but not at the expense of Europe,” Biden told a joint news conference with Macron.
