People gather in Copenhagen to pay tribute to mall shooting victims


Copenhagen (AFP) – People gather in Copenhagen at Field’s mall for a memorial to the victims of a shooting there that left three dead, including two teenagers. The alleged perpetrator of the attack, a 22-year-old Danish man who authorities say was known to mental health services, was remanded in custody in a “closed psychiatric ward” on Monday on murder charges.

Euro 2022: Austria coach says it’s a ‘privilege’ to play opening game


Manchester (United Kingdom) (AFP) – On the eve of the opening match of Euro 2022, Austria coach Irene Fuhrmann says she is looking forward to her side facing England. A sell-out crowd of 71,000 will watch the game at Old Trafford, breaking the attendance record for a match at a women’s European Championship by over 30,000 in the process.

Zelensky says he believes ‘Belarus will not be drawn into war’


Kyiv (Ukraine) (AFP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he “believes” that Belarus, an ally of Moscow, will not be “dragged” into the war waged by Russia in Ukraine. He appears to be referring to comments by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who threatened to “retaliate” after claiming anti-aircraft systems had interpreted missiles fired at his country by Ukrainian forces.

PSG appoint ‘proud’ Galtier as Pochettino departs


Paris (AFP) – “Yes, I am emotional, yes I am proud,” says Christophe Galtier at a press conference after Paris Saint-Germain replaced coach Mauricio Pochettino. Galtier is PSG’s seventh coach since the Qataris bought the club 11 years ago and will be expected, like his predecessors, to finally lift the Champions League trophy.

Genoa families hope ‘justice will take its course’ ahead of Italy bridge trial


Genoa (Italy) (AFP) – Local leaders and family members of victims of the deadly Morandi bridge collapse speak ahead of the trial which will begin on the 7th of July at the Court of Genoa. The highway in the northwestern Italian city gave way in torrential rain on August 14 four years ago, flinging cars and lorries into the abyss and killing 43 people.

Russia claims Ukraine arms spreading to Middle East black market


Moscow (AFP) – Russia claimes that some of the weapons the West is sending to Ukraine are spreading across the Middle East and ending up on the black market. Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu says that Ukraine had received more than 28,000 tonnes of military cargo so far, and some of the Western weapons were appearing in the Middle East.
