People queue to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth II in Edinburgh


Edinburgh (AFP) – IMAGES Members of the public queue outside St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh to pay their respects in front of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin, which will lie in the cathedral until it is flown to London on Tuesday ahead of the late monarch’s state funeral on September 19. Many were up early to queue for wristbands that will allow them to file past the closed coffin, guarded by the Royal Company of Archers, from 5:30 pm (1630 GMT).

Queen’s coffin arrives in Edinburgh on solemn final journey


Aberdeen (United Kingdom) (AFP) – Tens of thousands of mourners lined the route of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral cortege as it left the Scottish retreat where she died, to bid farewell to their longest serving monarch. The hearse carrying the 96-year-old’s oak coffin, draped in the Royal Standard of Scotland, was driven from the Balmoral estate through Aberdeen and Dundee to the capital Edinburgh, where the streets were packed with well-wishers.
