Surf’s up in Gaza City board event put on by local group


Gaza City (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Their surfboards may be old, but that doesn’t stop these young Gazans from riding the waves in a surfing event organised by The Palestinian Sailing and Rowing Association. “It’s a difficult and dangerous hobby,” says amateur surfer Mohammed Ghanem, “but it’s one of the most beautiful hobbies that we have practiced so far.”

Heartbreak and shock at Afghan quake hospital


Sharan (Afghanistan) (AFP) – Bibi Hawa’s face is distorted by tears as she tries to grasp her predicament from a hospital bed in Sharan, capital of Afghanistan’s Paktika province. At least a dozen members of her family were among over 1,000 people killed by a devastating earthquake that struck the region early Wednesday, and she fears she has been left all alone.

Ivory Coast flooding victims left with nothing
