Meyiwa tried to fight off intruders before being shot dead, witness tells court – EWN

 Prior to his death, Senzo Meyiwa reportedly attempted to resist intruders, as the Pretoria High Court has heard. Meyiwa’s close friend Tumelo Madlala testified for the first time on Tuesday.

“Madlala said Meyiwa had one of the criminals pinned against the wall while Kelly Khumalo, her mother and sister were beating another with his crutch and then the gun went off.” Read more here

Quinta Brunson Puts Jimmy Kimmel In His Place With Single Photo After Emmys Bit – Huffington Post

At Monday night’s 74th Emmy Awards, host Jimmy Kimmel’s poorly performed skit overshadowed a winning speech by Quinta Brunson, creator and star of “Abbott Elementary.”

“Kimmel stayed on the floor for the duration of Brunson’s acceptance speech, promoting online backlash from viewers who felt his stunt detracted from the historic significance of her achievement.”

Kaizer Chiefs coach Zwane issues update on Billiat injury – Goal 

Arthur Zwane, head coach of the Kaizer Chiefs, has provided an injury report on Khama Billiat, as well as on Reeve Frosler, Siyabonga Ngezana, and Cole Alexander.

“He is joined by attacker Khama Billiat who suffered a knee injury. Siyabonga Ngezana and Cole Alexander have been ruled out due to a bout of flu, while midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has been given time off by the technical team as he’s dealing with a family bereavement.” Read more here

Murdered Cape Town magistrate’s stolen car found – News24

A relative discovered Magistrate Romay van Rooyen dead in her Marinna da Gama residence on Saturday afternoon around 16h15.

“The investigation is still underway and arrests are yet to be made,” spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said.

The stolen SUV of murdered Magistrate Romay van Rooyen has been discovered, but no arrests have been made yet, News24 reports. 

According to News24, the car, which was taken from her house on Saturday, was discovered on Sunday night near Mitchells Plain. Read more here

Chelsea-Liverpool and Man Utd-Leeds postponed as most of Premier League set to resume following death of Queen Elizabeth II – Goals

According to Goal, Liverpool’s trip to Stamford Bridge has been postponed because Everton’s game against West Ham is on the same day. “Man Utd’s meeting with Leeds, meanwhile, has also been postponed, as has Brighton’s match against Crystal Palace, which was set for Saturday.” Read more here

Eskom to reduce load shedding to Stage 3 on Monday morning – EWN

According to EWN,Eskom will reduce load shedding from stage 4 to stage 3 on Monday. Thereafter, load shedding stage 2 will be implemented from Tuesday until Friday.

“The power utility said it has recovered emergency generation reserves and pump storage dams are expected to be fully replenished by Monday.” Read more here

Elton Jantjies is once again in the news, this time for allegedly having an affair with the Springboks’ dietitian, Zeenat Simjee. 

Janjies did not stay in a hotel in Mbombela with the Springboks team. Instead, he stayed at a guesthouse with Simjee, according to News24.

Jantjies pampered Simjee and a buddy at a spa. In the evening, he and Simjee drank R2,000 bottles of Mot & Chandon Nectar and dined in the honeymoon suite’s romantic atmosphere.

According to Sport24, Springbok management said that although no team protocols were breached the pair would be returning home to “attend to these personal reports and to eliminate any distractions to the team’s preparations for the Test against Argentina.” Read more here

According to Eskom’s pension fund, the former CEO of the power company, Brian Molefe, has not yet repaid the R10 million he owes.

Earlier, Eskom stated that it had recovered the R30 million it illegally paid to Molefe’s pension fund in 2016, News24 reports.

Woman who filed child sex abuse suit reportedly calls for arrest of Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears – Complex

According to Complex, the woman who recently said she was suing Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears for child sex abuse because of a sketch is now reportedly calling for the comedians to be arrested “immediately.”

Hillary Gardee murder: Witness saw two accused loading Gardee into a vehicle, court hears – News24

On Tuesday, the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court heard from a witness who saw two men carrying Hillary Gardee into a vehicle, News24 reports. 

According to Mkhaliphi, the witness saw Gama and Philemon Lukhele putting Hillary into one of Lukhele’s cars.

“It is unclear whether Hillary was alive or dead at the time. This is a serious offence. With the evidence we have, Gama was involved in disposing of the deceased.” Read more here

Thomas Tuchel said after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb that his team “lacked the smell of blood” and that he must find a way to fix their slow start to the season.

Zandile Mafe, who is suspected of setting fire to the Parliament, is requesting coffee, a kettle, a flat-screen television, and a radio for his Pollsmoor Prison cell. News24 reports.

“He wants coffee, a kettle and a radio to listen to the news. After the matter, Godla, Mafe’s lawyer told the media that he also wants a flat-screen TV.

Operation Dudula harasses immigrants outside Kalafong hospital – Daily Maverick 

According to the Daily Maverick, members of Operation Dudula were present outside the Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital in Tshwane, yelling at immigrant patients and staff. 

The police were there to enforce the court order issued by the Gauteng Department of Health last week in response to the threats.

“They greeted patients who were of a dark skin colour one by one, to check which language they spoke and to listen to their accent. The local language here is Tswana or Pedi. If they found that you don’t know those languages, they turned you away,” reported a security officer for the Daily Maverick. Read more here

Load shedding – up to Stage 4 – expected in summer, Eskom says – News24

Parliament heard on Wednesday that Eskom still anticipates load shedding in the summer, with Stage 4 being the highest projected to be imposed, News24 reports. 

“Eskom plans to add new generation capacity over the next 36 months to reduce the risk of load shedding. This is enabled through its land lease agreement with Independent Power Producers, emergency procurement measures and imports from the region to be implemented over the next 12 months as part of energy crisis interventions.”

South Africans have suffered 91 days of load shedding so far this year. Read more here

Fábio Carvalho strikes at death to give Liverpool dramatic win over Newcastle – The Guardian

Two police officers, three others die in Rand Airport crash – News24

A South African Police Service (SAPS) fixed-wing aircraft crashed soon after takeoff from the Rand Airport in Germiston, Gauteng, on Tuesday afternoon, killing five people.

According to News24, the pilot is seeking medical treatment for life-threatening injuries.

“Authorities are on scene to establish the cause of the accident. The details of the deceased and injured pilot will be released once their next of kin have been informed.” Read more here

The 47-year-old runner with the Adventist Athletic Club in Pretoria, Phakamile Ntshiza, died unexpectedly on route to Durban.
